A newspaper cutting went viral a few months back which had some controversial statement by Yogi Adiyanath. It was flooded on twitter and facebook bashing the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh. It was tweeted and retweeted a lot of times.
Avinash Das, a former Journalist who turned to Movie direction tweeted a snap of a newspaper cutting where Yogi Adityanath is cited as saying, “हमारा काम गाय बचाना है, लड़की नहीं (English Translation:- Our job is to save the cow and not women)”.
In response to this image, he captioned the snap,
“बोलो, इस आदमी को जूते पड़ने चाहिए या नहीं?
tell me if this man should be slapped with shoes or not?.
It received about 4000 likes and more than 1000 retweets. Many people got angry and retweeted with vulgar personal comments about the CM. Many of the opposition party’s spokespeople used it to attack the UP government.

One more twitter handle with the name “QD Siddiqui Journalist” tweeted the same paper cutting.
He tweeted with the caption,
“योगी आदित्यनाथ का फिर गैर जिम्मेदाराना बयान कहा हमारा काम गाय बचाना है लड़की नहीं”.
This tweet didn’t get much viral and only 20-30 people liked it and shared it

The photo of the news clipping read, “Our job is to save the cow, not woman.” This statement was made concerning the comments on the arrest of BJP leader Kuldeep Sengar who was the accused of Unnao rape case. Yogi Adityanath was quoted saying that his job was to save the cows, not the girl. This statement naturally brought a lot of uproars and spread like wildfire on Twitter and WhatsApp circles. He was also heard saying that the job of state police is to catch the criminals and the traffic police don’t do this. Likewise, the Anti Romeo squads are for punishing the boys and girls in the park and not to catch the rapist MLAs.
Everyone was shocked when they were told that CM said this “our job is to save cows, not women”. It wasn’t covered by any mainstream media and credible news houses. This creates a sense of doubt that it might be fake. On further investigation, it is pretty clear that it was fake. It is found that it came from a satire making website Rhumor Times which has been deleted now. The article dedicated to Yogi Adityanath was published on this site on 10th April 2018. You can still see the archived version of the article here
In the ‘About Us’ section of the website, we can see it mentions
“rhumor times is a satire and humour website. The website publishes rumor with humor.”
This claim has also been checked by other sites like Alt news and thelallantop.
Hence we should always verify the news before sharing it. The social media has become a factory of fake news. It can lead to loss of someone’s reputation or even life. Be responsible and always check the facts.
Did you know that nearly half of any social media platform users report they see fake news on their feed...
