A video clip went viral on social media of Rahul Gandhi cutting a cake with Dr Manmohan Singh. It appealed that Rahul did not allow Manmohan Singh, the former Prime Minister, to cut his own birthday cake. His birthday was celebrated on 26th September, 2019

One of the people who shared this video was Madhav Sharma. He wrote in the caption Wishing Dr. #ManmohanSingh a very happy birthday. This video always reminds us how he ran the government for 10 years. He isn’t even allowed to cut his own birthday cake. You can imagine how much power he had as PM.” The video was viewed more than 2.5 lakh times and even had 93 retweets.

Fact Check

The truth is that the video is a year old. It was posted from Official Congress handle on the eve of Congress Foundation Day. This is not the first time Pro-BJP accounts have shared fake news to target the ex-PM.
Official Twitter Handle of Shefali Vaidya tweeted the video with a similar Caption. Her caption read “MMS doesn’t even have the authority to cut his own birthday cake before @RahulGandhi leads his hand! Imagine how he ‘ran’ the government for 10 years!!” It was retweeted more than 3000 times and viewed more than 250 thousand times. Such kind of activities are not expected from verified accounts. Even after all these we see surge in fake news from these accounts.

This video clip was also making headlines on Facebook news feed. It was shared from a Facebook page named ‘Arnab Fan Club’. The shocking thing is that it gathered more than 2700 views. People have been sharing this video blindly without any verification. Here is the actual video which was posted.

 

It is clear now that the video was posted in a completely misleading manner. This was meant to malign the image of Ex-PM Manmohan Singh for cheap political gain. People should verify the facts before sharing as it may be fake and affect some people adversely.
